Freedom North Shore is happy to present the first Women’s Empowerment Award to State Representative Tram Nguyen. We will be honoring the North Shore legislators who stand up for the rights of women – regardless of the actions and words of people who would like to reduce women’s autonomy by controlling her access to the healthcare she needs.
As we witness the federal government rollback of the rights of marginalized and vulnerable communities, including women, Freedom North Shore is working to ensure that the efforts of our local legislators do not go unnoticed. We salute and support our allies, and will continue to work with them to ensure that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts remains a leader in civil rights for all.
Rep. Nguyen has long been an advocate of women’s rights, even before she was elected to the State House. In her words:
I am a woman, an advocate for survivors of domestic violence, and a defender of reproductive rights. Women should not have to argue for autonomy over our bodies. Every woman should be able to make personal decisions about the full range of reproductive health care options. I hope to have the opportunity to bring about a brighter, safer, and more equal Massachusetts for all women.
Although Rep. Nguyen is newly elected to Beacon Hill, she has accomplished much in her first 100 days. She filed 21 bills, advocating with her fellow legislators to get their co-sponsorships. Her bills are designed to
protect the most vulnerable, ensure fair employment practices, promote safety for victims of violence & human trafficking, advocate for energy efficiency, and address climate change.
Rep. Nguyen serves on the Joint Committee on Housing, the Joint Committee on Mental Health, Substance Use & Recovery, the Joint Committee on Municipalities and Regional Government, and the House Committee on Personnel & Administration. Rep. Nguyen holds regular office hours in her district, making herself easily accessible to those in need of constituent services.
Rep. Nguyen embodies the qualities Freedom North Shore wants to see in our elected officials: strong leadership, integrity, honesty, transparency, and dedication to fight for the rights of women, children and families in our Commonwealth.
